About the product
The RetroSign GRX is a handheld device for measuring all types of retroreflective sheeting on road traffic signs, license plates, conspicuity tapes and high visibility clothing.
It comes in three base models, with the model number corresponding to the number of observation angles:
- GRX-1 (1 entrance and 1 main observation angle)
- GRX-3 (1 entrance and 3 observation angles)
- GRX-7 (1 entrance and 7 observation angles)
The model used by PlusSol for this review was the RetroSign GRX-7.

Interview with Mark Pardy, Director of PlusSol.
Please briefly describe the project where you used the RetroSign GRX.
I was hired by a customer to survey and report on the retroreflective performance of the road signs on a stretch of the A13 in London.
Had you used a retroreflectometer before this project?
Yes, but not on a project of this scale, and this was the first time using the RetroSign GRX.
What made you choose the RetroSign GRX for this work?
Lakeside Group are a local company I have worked with for many years. I trust their expertise in reflectivity, and I was confident the retroreflectometer they supply would be fit for purpose. I also liked the fact that I would have access to technical support from their team if needed.
Were you given training by Lakeside Group before using the RetroSign GRX?
Yes, training was done in house. I found my trainer, Lewis, very knowledgeable.
How easy was the RetroSign GRX to learn and use in practice?
It was very easy once I familiarised myself with the device and how the data is recorded.
Did you require any technical support from Lakeside Group while using the RetroSign GRX in the field? And if so, how would you rate the support provided?
Yes, I contacted Lewis for support, who was very helpful and solved my issue straight away over the phone.
Did the RetroSign GRX meet the requirements of the project?
Yes, it covered all the requirements of the standards I was working too.
What did you like most about the RetroSign GRX?
I like that the GRX is self-calibrating, and that a pass result is signified with a big green thumbs up. This simple visualisation makes it really easy to interpret the results whilst out in the field.
Would you recommend the RetroSign GRX to others in the industry? If so, why?
Yes. It’s easy to use and gives you an instant result.
Would you use the RetroSign GRX again on future projects?
Yes, if another project of this nature were to come up again, I wouldn’t hesitate to use the RetroSign GRX again.
Do you feel the RetroSign GRX offers good value for money compared to other options?
Yes, it’s very good value for money.
If you had to describe the RetroSign GRX in one or two sentences to a colleague, what would you say?
Portable, easy to use, with clear, instant results (a green thumbs up for a pass, or a red thumbs down for a failure.
