As part of an ongoing commitment to improving standards and the understanding of standards in the application of reflective materials, the Reflective Equipment Manufacturers Association (REMA) Vehicle Conspicuity Group have updated their best practice guide to Chapter 8 and ECE104 markings and materials. This replaces all previous versions with immediate effect.

As part of REMA’s Vehicle Conspicuity sub-committee we were involved in the creation of these guidelines which are designed to help fleet managers and operators understand what markings their fleet should have, in order to comply with the updated requirements of Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual. The latest version of Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual (updated 2020) has raised the specification of reflective materials used; they should now meet class R3B (which is typically a high grade microprismatic)

This document also details variations in Chapter 8 and Safety at Street Works and Road Works for Scotland and Wales as well as providing guidance on which materials meet R3B performance classification.
